Shoes made with leather outsoles are of higher quality and more expensive for several reasons. Not only is it a sustainable material but leather is 100% natural, free of plastics, and biodegradable.
When wearing footwear that is made with a leather outsole, you are essentially creating a customized pair of shoes for yourself. Over time your comfort level in them will increase as the leather molds and contours to the shape of your foot.
Leather outsoles can also easily be replaced at any shoe repair shop years and years after wear thus preserving the shoe for a lifetime.
This is referred to as a toplift. We use rubber toplifts on all of our footwear (where applicable) because it is the highest quality material to use. The rubber toplift is in place in order to protect the heel from wear. Once your toplift is worn down which can take years depending on the amount of wear, any shoe repair shop is able to replace them for generally under $5.00. It is important to replace your toplifts before they are worn thin as to protect the heel. This occurs with all footwear so it's important to protect your premium goods.
We use 100% pure rubber for our toplifts. This is the outer piece that protects the heel from wear. After extensive wear, the rubber part of the outsole will become worn. We strongly recommend you take the shoes to a shoe repair to have the rubber toplift replaced thus protecting your heel from wear. The rubber will wear out but your shoes will not!

Each style states the origin of manufacturing in the product details section which you’ll find next to each product. The styles currently available have been handmade and manufactured in Los Angeles, California and Italy. A few shoe styles still remaining from our previous collections were manufactured in China at an Italian-run factory. As of Spring 2019, our fine footwear is manufactured in the northern region of Italy in Venice.
There are many people involved in the making of just one pair of shoes. In the Los Angeles factory, it took 22 people to physically make the paper pattern, cut and stitch the leather, last the shoe, cut the heel out of blocks of wood or leather, stamp the logo, assemble, polish and pack. All by hand.
In our new Italian factory, there are over 30 people all working together to assemble just one pair.
There is a factory for any accessories used (such as buckles, snaps or buttons), a leather supplier, a tannery, a factory for the metal shanks, a heel factory, a factory for the toplifts, a last factory, an outsole factory, a factory for the shoe boxes and the tissue plus many more. Every component of our fine footwear is produced in its' own manufacturer. Each factory employs anywhere from 10-50 or more people. One pair of shoes is priced to pay for this immense amount of intensive and collaborative labor.
We use recycled paper materials wherever possible. Our business cards and Thank You notes are made of cotton.
Most footwear that is "vegan" uses PU leather ("pleather") or polyurethane which is a plastic. We use only the highest quality natural materials. There is very little plastic in our footwear, most styles contain none. We use sustainable high quality select leathers from Italian tanneries and natural metals. Our heels are made of wood heels with seldom exceptions of using plastic compound moulds. Our footwear is made of nearly all-natural components making it biodegradable.
The lasts that we use to develop our footwear are of standard width which have accommodated and satisfied many narrow feet.
We do not specifically make shoes in wide width however on occasion we do have styles that fit wider than others. On the product pages' description, we will specify if the shoe runs wide.
Please email us via email@example.com and we will be happy to assist you in your purchase or chat with us for any specific inquiries.
